The Public Library Connection — Flagging Your Titles Also Owned by the Public Library
Summary: The English teacher has a bibliography from which her students must read, but the item the student wants is checked out from your collection. If you have an Alexandria "A" license and if you have run the Flag Items Also in Public Library utility, all is not lost. The student will be able to see whether or not the public library has that item when they search your catalog.
First, contact your public library to determine if they have a Z39.50 server and will provide the information needed to you. Then, you must enter the Z39.50 information for your local public library on the Public Library Z39.50 Information tab in Library Information — Global preferences. This information is necessary for Alexandria to access your public library's database so that items in your collection may be compared and flagged if they are also available at the public library.
To run the Flag Items Also in Public Library utility:
- Go to File on the menu bar and select Utilities from the drop-down menu.
- Set the Utility Type to Items and the Operation to Flag Items Also in Public Library.
- Leave the Select By option set to all items.
- Click on Run.
- When asked if you want to run an Archive first, select Yes.
(For more information on "M" versus "A" licenses, contact your Sales Assistant at 1-800-347-6439.)
