Tracking Subscriptions

Summary: Magazines/Periodicals can be challenging to track with different delivery schedules and the variety of circulation methods.  This week’s tip covers the basics of entering and receiving subscriptions along with a newly added feature when inventorying a subscription on receipt using an on-the-fly cataloging window.

To add a subscription:

Select Subscriptions from the Show drop-down menu.

 

Use the Subscription drop-down menu to choose New Subscription.

Use the indicated fields and drop-down menus to enter the appropriate desired information on the Subscription Info and Item Info tabs.

Click on Save to save the added information.  Click on Revert to cancel the changes.

To receive a subscription:

Choose Subscriptions from the Show drop-down menu.

Select Find from the Edit or Subscriptions drop-down menus.

Enter the information with which to locate the desired subscription.

Click on the Receive Subscription button.

 

If Inventory on receipt was checked on the Item Info tab, an Add Subscription Issue window will come up.  This can be used to add the issue as a new item in the collection.

A new option has been added to the previously mentioned cataloging window allowing for the issue to be added as a copy to a previously entered item record.  Just click on Add to Existing Title checkbox.

 

Add the desired information to be cataloged and click on Save  to save the added record.  Click Cancel to cancel the changes.

Or

Type e and press <enter> on the Command line of the Circulation window.

Highlight the appropriate periodical from the list on the resulting Select Subscription window.

Click OK to receive the indicated subscription.

If Inventory on Receipt was checked as part of the subscription’s Item Info tab, the Add Subscription Issue window will come up.  Fill in the desired catalog information to add this as a new item or copy in the collection.

Click Save to save the entered information.
