Patron Username and Password

Summary: If you have added a patron or looked at the patron window in Alexandria v5.5.1, you may have noticed a new field labeled Username. Along with their passwords, patrons can use their username or barcode to place holds or reservations and check their details.

When adding a patron, the Password field is set by default to the last name of the patron. The new Username field is set by default to the patron's barcode. This is the same information that was previously required for patrons to place their own holds and reservations, etc. from the Researcher or Web Researcher.

If they are allowed, patrons are able to modify their Password from the Researcher client and the Web Researcher. Both usernames and passwords may be modified from the Patron Management window. By changing both, patrons have more control over the security of their information. 

To modify a password from the Researcher:

• Click on the Log In button at the bottom-right of the Researcher window. You may also bring up the Log In window by selecting Edit Patron Information from the Show drop-down menu.
• Enter Username or Barcode and Password and click the Log In button.
• If you clicked on the Log In button from the Researcher window, select Edit Patron Information  from the Show drop-down menu after logging in.
• Click on the Change Password tab and enter your Old Password, New Password, and then verify the new password.

To modify a password from the Web Researcher:

• Click on the Log In link on the left-hand side of the window.
• Use the Patron Edit link to open the Edit page.
• Click on the Password tab.
• Enter the Old Password, New Password, and then verify the new password.

Utilize this new field to help better secure patron's details and other personal information.
