Barcode and Spine Label Reports

Summary: Alexandria offers many report options, and with the help of the built-in Virtual Word Processor, it is possible to make some modifications to reports that you run. However, there are certain reports that should not be modified. Label reports, such as barcode and spine labels, are best run as they are so as not to disturb the formatting needed for the labels to fit properly when printing on a label sheet. We also do not recommend exporting label reports to other applications. We are looking at adding a new module to allow more flexibility at some future date, but for now it is best to find the format that fits your needs and run the label report as it is formatted.

One modification that can be made to help spine labels stand out is to bold the text.

To bold text:

• Click on the Lock icon in the upper-left of the report window that was generated by printing the report. 
• Go to the Edit menu and choose Select All. 
• Click on the toolbar button marked B, which appears in the center near the top of the report window. 
• Send the label report to your printer by selecting Print from the File menu or using the appropriate hot-key command.

Companion Corporation does sell labels to fit the label report formats, but you can also purchase compatible labels from other sources.

V0055	Laser Labels, Blank (3,000/package 2 1/2 x 1) $19 Blank Labels are used for barcode labels or patron address labels.
V0032	Spine Labels (4,800/package 1 x 1 5/8) Page printer $49 8 labels across by 6 labels down per sheet. Use these labels if you have several lines in your call numbers as these are a bit taller than the V0034 labels.
V0034	Spine Labels (5,000/package 1 1/2 x 1) Page printer $49 5 Rows of labels across, 10 down per sheet. These labels are a bit wider than the V0032 labels and look better when you have longer call number segments, but fewer segments.
V0031	Envelope and Spine Label Set Page printer $49 These labels are used for the envelope and spine label report formats. There are two envelope labels to each spine label, which allows you to put title, author, call number, and barcode information in two places on an item. You can use some of these formats as your scannable barcode if you wish.
