Tip of the Week
Tip for: 10.31.2005
Restoring from an Archive
Summary: In the tip, Where is my Data Folder from Oct. 3rd we discussed the new Open Archive Folder button. This week's tip will deal with the other new button on the Archive tab, which allows users to restore their data from the Archive folder.
Although we hope our users will never have a need to restore their Data folder from a backup or an archive, we realize that at times this might be necessary. This added feature will help to make this process quick and easy, especially with the change of folder location on the Macintosh platform.
To restore Data from the Archive folder:
-
A window will open allowing you to select the desired archive to use.
-
Highlight the archive to use and click on Restore. If you wish to delete the archive after it has been used, you can check the Delete the archived data after restoring button.
-
A message will open asking if you are sure you want to replace your current data. Click on Yes, if you really do want to restore from the archived data.
-
A status window will allow you to track the status of the restoration. You can also see an entry in the Transaction Log to note that the data was restored.
Please be aware that this is a very powerful feature and should be used with great thought and care.
Thank you,
The Alexandria Staff Librarians
