Making Refunds Even Easier
Summary: Some of you may have wondered if there were an easier way to find out if a refund was due a patron who returned a lost book — without having to check the charges window or tab of the patron. Alexandria v5.4.4 and beyond makes this a breeze by bringing up a Refund Payment window when a refund is due. You can print a receipt as a paper reminder, along with refunding the money against the patron's record in the system.
To give a refund:
- Bookdrop the item being returned.
- If the item was lost, a dialog box will appear alerting you that the item had been marked lost and asking if it has been found. Click Yes.
- If a payment was made, a Refund Payment window will appear letting you know the amount paid along with the maximum amount, which can be refunded.
- Enter the desired refund amount in the Amount to Refund box. This defaults to the full amount that was paid, but can be changed based on your library policy.
- Click on the Refund or Refund, Print Receipt button, depending on whether or not you would like a paper copy of the transaction.
