A New Look to Declaring Items Lost
Summary: The upcoming release of v5.5 offers many new, exciting features. One of these is a new option for declaring items lost. Rather than look up and copy the barcode of the item that has been lost from the patron record and then check it out to patron 1, you can now do it right from the renewal window for the patron. Items highlighted and then declared lost are automatically checked out to the Lost Copies Patron (1).

To declare an item lost:

  • In Check In / Out mode, scan or type the barcode of the patron with the lost item(s). If the barcode was typed, press <enter>.
  • Type "QE" in the Command line. You can also bring up this window by clicking on the Renew icon or selecting Renew Patron Items from the Circulation menu.


  • Highlight the item(s) to be marked lost.
  • Click on the Declare Lost button.


  • If you are sure you want to mark the selected item lost, click Yes on the dialog window that comes up.


  • Complete the process from the Charges window where you can forgive a portion or all of the charge, add an additional charge, make a payment, and print a receipt as desired.
