Overnight & Same Day Checkout: Easy as Pie!
Summary: Are you aware that Overnight Checkout has been available for some time? The Overnight Check Out command allows you to check items out to patrons that you want returned to the library the very next day. Another related command recently added to Alexandria is the Same Day Check Out command, which allows you to check items out to be returned on the same day they are checked out.
Using the Overnight Check Out command:
- With the patron current, type O and then scan or type the barcode of the item. Click the <enter> key, if you typed in the barcode.
You will notice as you look at the Transaction Log, that the due date of the item is set for the next day.
Using the Same Day Check Out command:
- From the Circulation window, scan or type in the barcode number of the patron to make current. Click the <enter> key, if you typed the in the barcode.
- With the patron current, type OS and then scan or type the barcode of the item. Click the <enter> key, if you typed in the barcode.
You will notice as you look at the Transaction Log, that the due date of the item is set for the same day.
These useful commands are ideal for special items that may not usually be checked out, like reference items, or for special situations such as checking items out to a substitute.
