Printing up Search Results
Summary: After conducting a search from the Alexandria Researcher, patrons have several printing options for saving their results to paper. Understanding what each format has to offer can assist you in recommending the right format to your patrons.
- The Simple List format looks just like the Results window on the Alexandria Researcher, and allows the user to print off a basic list of results.
- The Bibliographic format displays the Call Number and then the basic Title information.
- The Citation format is one of the most useful for students doing reports. It prints off the selected titles from the Results List in a MLA bibliographic format that students can use as a reference when citing their report sources.
- Short Search Results Details is similar to the Citation format, but displays the title's summary, along with the citation information for each title in the list.
- Full Search Results Details offers the same title information as Short Search Results Details, but in a different format that includes the Notes, ISBN, and added Publication Information.
- The Notes format is also useful for report research. It displays citation information, along with a brief summary and an area for taking notes on a separate page for each source. It provides a nice way to track what information came from what source.
- The MARC format prints up each selected title's MARC information in readalbe Microlif format. By removing the report header and saving the file as text, these records can be imported into Alexandria. This makes it easy to share item records with other librarians.
Note: Print options are available for all search options from a Researcher client, but Simple search does not allow the user to narrow down the results to a Saved List.
Thank you,
The Alexandria Staff Librarians
