Caring for Your Scanner
Summary: Scanners play an important role in streamlining the check in and out process. Taking the time to keep them clean and free of dust and grime not only helps them to work better, but also protects against the spread of sickness (such as flus and colds).
Note: Before cleaning the scanner, be sure to shut down your computer and then unplug the scanner. It is also important to wait to plug it back in until the scanner has completely dried from any excess moisture.
Three good options for cleaning your scanner are:
1) Hand-sanitizer & a Kleenex – Take a Kleenex with some hand-sanitizer on it to gently wipe down a scanner.
2) Alcohol Cotton Swabs - These disinfecting swabs, available from most pharmaceutical areas (near diabetic supplies), can easily reach all the cracks and crevices of your scanner (as well as keyboards and mice).
3) Disinfecting Spray – Disinfecting spray, such as Lysol, can also be used to clean off and disinfect your scanner. Care should be taken so that the spray moisture does not get inside the scanner. Do not overspray the scanner and make sure to spray from the appropriate distance (which should be listed on the spray bottle). Use a Kleenex or soft cloth to wipe away excess moisture, if necessary.
Thank you,
