Noting the Reason for Discarding Items from Circulation

Summary: There are a few new commands in some of the recent updates to Alexandria. As many of you may be weeding your collections prior to inventory, you may find the new DM command helpful in quickly indicating the reason a set of items are being discarded.

To set the Discarded Mode:

  • Open Alexandria to the Circulation window.
  • In the command line, type DM and then the reason for discarding the items to be scanned.
  • Press <enter> to start the DM mode.
  • The Discarded Items patron will automatically come up and the reason for discarding the item will automatically be added to the Copy Notes as you scan the items to check them out to the Discarded patron.
  • Once you have scanned all of the items being discarded for that reason, press "." and then <enter> to go back to normal Check In / Out mode.
