Tip of the Week
Tip for: 04.05.2004
What Do You Mean, "Global"?
Summary: A few weeks ago we introduced the new Local drop-down menu for selecting different preference options. This tip builds on that information by discussing the Global setting in more detail. Local and Default Local will be covered in future tips.
Global preferences are those that affect all clients connected to a particular Data Station or Server. Although these preferences are stored on the Data Station, users at the Administration security level can modify them from any client (Library Work Station). These changes affect all other clients immediately. The Administration, Advanced Bookings, Archive, Calendar, Checkpoint ILS, Policies, SIF, and Web preferences only have Global settings. Alexandria Researcher, Circulation, Item Management, Library Information, Orders, and Patron Management are preferences that have both Global and Local settings.
To modify a preference:
- Select Preferences from the Edit menu.
- Use the Library Info drop-down menu to choose the desired preference.
- Select the appropriate setting using the Local drop-down menu.
- Make the desired preference change.
- Click Save.
We hope this helps to clarify this new feature of the preferences window. For further detail, please see the "Preferences" chapters of the User's Manual.
