Quick & Easy Client Installation

Summary: While on the topic of Alexandria 5.44revD, we thought it might be helpful to discuss the steps for installing a client using a web browser. This method saves the hassle of copying the installer files from your Alexandria Data Station to a disk, or sharing the files through your network. Below are directions for using this installation option.

Notes:

  • Ensure the Administrator Username and Password are set up in your Administration preferences.
  • You will need the latest Java applet installed on your computer.

To install Alexandria Clients from the web:

  • Ensure your Alexandria Data Station is running.
  • From the machine that the client is to be installed on, open an Internet web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Safari, etc.).
  • In the browser Address field, type the IP address of your Alexandria Data Station followed by "/install" for Windows users or those running Macintosh OSX, or "/install_mac" for those running Macintosh OS 9.2.2.
    Note: If you are not sure of the IP address of your Data Station, it appears on your Transaction Log each time you launch Alexandria. If you have problems locating your IP address, contact your network administrator or contact COMPanion's Technical Support team.
  • If previous steps were completed correctly, the Alexandria Web Installer page will appear.
  • If you don't have the correct Java applet installed (in this case Java Plug-in 1.3), follow the instructions from your browser to install it. If you are on the current Java version or have just installed it, Java will then ask for permission to run the applet; please grant permission for the session.
  • Select the workstation client to be installed by clicking on the appropriate button.
  • Enter your Administration Username and Password in the pop-up dialog box that appears. These are the same ones you set up in your Administration preferences.
  • The Alexandria client folder will appear on your desktop. You can move it elsewhere if desired.
  • Double click on the Alexandria icon to launch the client.
