Local or Global… Which Preference Do I Use?Summary: The Preferences window in our recent updates features a new drop-down menu with Local, Default Local, or Global options. These more easily define which preferences affect Alexandria on a global level versus a local level. Some preferences only affect Alexandria locally at each individual machine (e.g. window colors, alert sounds, next barcode, etc.). Other preference settings stored on the data station (i.e. server) affect Alexandria globally determining the settings of each connected client. Some preferences affect Alexandria both locally (from the client) and globally (from the server). Over the next few weeks we will discuss each of these categories in more detail.To modify a preference:

• Select Preferences from the Edit menu.

• Use the Library Info drop-down menu to choose the desired preference.

• Select the appropriate setting using the Local drop-down menu.
• Make the desired preference change.
• Click Save.
