Creating a Reserve Transaction Script
Summary: For those who may do reserves in their library, you may find that you reserve the same books for the same teachers year after year. To save time both in setting up the reserves and checking them back in, you can set up a transaction script that can be imported when needed.
Create a Transaction Script:
- Select New Document from the File menu.
- On the first line, type a period and press <enter>.
- Use your scanner to scan the patron barcode or type the number and press <enter>.
- For single items, type J and scan the barcode. If you type the barcode, be sure to press the <enter> key.
OR
- For multiple items, type J and press <enter> to switch to Reserve mode. Then, scan the items to place on reserve for the patron.
- When finished adding the items for the current patron, type "." and press <enter> to switch back to Check In/Out.
- Once you have finished creating the file, select Save as text from the File menu.
Note: Follow this same process for other patrons on the same document, or save as individual files for different patrons.
Import the Script:
- In the Command Line, type an * and press <enter>.
- Click Add file.
- Select the file to be imported using the resulting window and click on Open.
- Click on Run.
Notes: The Transaction Log shows what is being done as the script is being processed. To remove a Reserve, the item must be checked in while in check in/out mode with the reserving patron current. Bookdrop mode cannot be used. This is to ensure that the reserve is not mistakenly removed.
Reverse the Process:
- From the File menu, select Open.
- Choose the appropriate file.
- Remove the J commands.
- Save by selecting Save from the File menu.
- Import the modified script as described in To import script above.
Note: Any word processing program can be used to create these scripts, as long as the file is saved as text.
