Configuring the Keyspan USA 19Q adapter

Technical Note Summary:

Keyspan recently updated their USA 19 adapter to the USA 19Q adapter. Macintosh Palm users on Palm Desktop version 2.6.3 aren't able to hotsync with the new adapter. This document addresses the configuration that needs to be followed for the adapter to hotsync.

Any Palms that were sold by COMPanion since May 2002 included the new Keyspan USA 19Q adapter. It can be identified easily by the green light on the front of the adapter. The driver software should be installed for this adapter. Once it is installed, the green light should flicker slowly.

Keyspan USA 19Q troubleshooting:
If the green light is not on, the adapter is not receiving power from the USB cable or the USB port. If the green light is on and solid the Keyspan serial port is "in use" by an application on the computer. If the green light is on and solid and it shouldn't be, unplug it from the computer and plug it in again. Once it is plugged in again the green light should blink.

Next, check the version of the Palm Desktop software. See the chart below for compatibility.

Once you ensure that the Keyspan adapter is compatible with the Palm Desktop software, check the Connection Settings tab in the Hotsync Manager. The Keyspan DB9 setting should be checked. Place the Palm scanner in the cradle and press the Hotsync button.

"I've been pleased with Alexandria ever since we bought the program. Tech support has been great and I like the fact that I can call at all hours, even when working late and get a human to help me."
