Alexandria Set Up Choices: Multi Data Station

Alexandria Controller / MDS (Multi Data Station) functions with each library having their own separate database, however, all databases are housed on one central server and managed by the “Alexandria Controller” application. MDS gives librarians in a group of libraries the ability to share resources with other Alexandria libraries, yet still direct and control their own collection independently. Alexandria Controller can update and backup all of the databases at once to one location. This configuration makes life easy on the tech person, while at the same time allowing autonomy for librarians to manage their own records and policies. Patrons have the ability to either search an individual library, a group of libraries, or all libraries at once. Alexandria’s advanced search features allow libraries to simultaneously access all collections in real-time. Each library can choose an appropriate license level for their patron base and anticipated usage. Each library maintains control over policies, preferences and cataloging.

"Alexandria has helped to make our library user friendly and efficient for both students and faculty. Not only is the program great, but the Alexandria staff is too. They have been more than helpful when called. And, now I'm beginning to utilize the "Tip of the Week" located on their website."
